This year, I decided to take a different approach to my sales role.
In the run-up to Christmas, I researched different business planning methods. I read books, watched videos, and listened to podcasts.
I listened to an episode of The Sales Management Simplified podcast, leading to this blog post.
It breaks down the essential elements of a personal sales business plan and why you should have one.

I’ve set some big goals for 2025. It made sense to write them down for two reasons:
The chances of achieving your goals increase when they’re written down; and
Accountability.
My personal sales business plan is a valuable roadmap that will help me stay on track to reaching my goals this year.

My personal sales business plan has five sections:
Section 1 - Goals
What are you going to achieve?
This section helps me start with the end in mind.
It includes revenue generated, gross profit margin and new business created.
Section 2 - Strategies
How are you going to do it?
This section helps me focus on target accounts, cross-selling opportunities and your most growable + at risk accounts.
Section 3 - Action
What are you going to do?
This section is all about activity and metrics.
How many calls do I make, how many emails do I send, and how many meetings do I host?
Section 4 - Obstacles
What’s in the way?
What will stop me from achieving my goals? I try identifying barriers upfront by making a list of known obstacles and listing strategies for overcoming them.
Failure is not an option.
Section 5 - Personal Growth
How do you want to grow this year?
If you’re not growing, you’re dying. That means investing in my most important asset—me! Books, Courses, Podcasts, etc. What do I need to improve to get to the next level?
My three areas for improvement this year are communication, artificial intelligence and finance.
