93. Seven Things I Do Every Sunday Night to Plan for the Week
60-90 Minutes to Prepare for the Next Seven Days
What do I want to get done this week?
That’s the question I ask when I sit down on Sundays. It’s the question that guides my 7-step preparation for the week.
I’ve got a recurring 90-minute meeting on my calendar to run through the steps
.It helps me reflect on what happened last week and what I need to focus on for the upcoming week.
I stole this process from Patrick Bet-David, and it’s been a game-changer. It helps me start the week on the front foot.
Now it can help you too.

THE BIG IDEA
Review Outstanding Tasks + Create Task List
I use the 3-3-3 Method to outline what I want to get done for the week.
Then I organise my tasks based on priority - P1, P2 and P3.
P1 - Highlight Task. My most important task for the week
P2 - Urgent To-Dos. Necessary things, but not important
P3 - Admin Tasks. Things that help me make progress with P1 + P2 tasks.
I also review outstanding tasks from previous weeks. Are they still necessary, or can I delegate/delete them?
Remaining tasks stay on my master to-do list or get reassigned based on a) my focus for the week and b) priority level.
90 Day Review
I look at the meetings I’ve had over the last 90 days. The purpose is three-fold:
Remind myself who I met or had a call with.
Did I follow up and set a next action (next meeting, send info etc)?
When was the last time I spoke with a client/key account?
Any leaks are added to my to-do list.
Meetings
I check the internal and external meetings I have coming up.
Are they confirmed? If not, I add follow-ups to my to-do list.
I also schedule 24-hour reminder emails confirming my external meetings.
Am I prepared for my meetings? Do I have my notes, presentations, research and questions ready?
I add any preparation gaps to my to-do list.
Who Needs What
I make a list of everyone I need to follow up with this week.
That could be updating team members, the senior leadership team or key accounts with insights, data or feedback.
It also includes hot or stalled deals that I need to progress.
Reading
My reading list takes two forms.
Target Market - Reading industry press and blog posts based on my [current sprint].
Industry - What are my knowledge gaps about the waste industry? I’m a relative newbie with 15 months of experience in the waste industry. While I’ve learned a lot in a short space of time, I’m barely scratching the surface.
To become the best sales consultant I can be, I need to develop into a domain expert.
That means plenty of reading.
Family
What family commitments do I have this week, and how do they impact work?
I do the nursery runs on Thursdays & Fridays, and sometimes I have to finish work early.
Whatever these commitments are, they’re an essential part of every week.
Bonus
I like getting off to a good start on Mondays.
Besides getting my work priorities in order, I also prepare for the morning.
That means setting out my running gear, getting coffee and breakfast ready and packing my lunch.
I want there to be as little friction as possible on Monday morning. Following this routine saves time and ensures my week starts smoothly.
Taking 60-90 minutes on a Sunday evening to go through these seven steps helps me stay ahead.
Now it’s your turn.
Thanks for reading!
